Boiler Service Technician:

The experienced Boiler Service Technician is responsible for maintaining the heating systems of buildings that make use of water boilers and radiators to distribute heat.

Boiler Technicians install boilers, assemble boiler tanks, inspect and test boiler systems to make sure they are working properly. This position reports directly to the Director of the Boiler Division as assigned.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

This position is responsible for the following: Other duties may be assigned.

  • Diagnose and service boilers and related equipment.
  • Fine-tune combustion and control settings (various fuel types).
  • Prepare boilers for inspections.
  • Perform mechanical and electrical installations.
  • Startup boilers for the heating season.
  • Manage start-up tasks for new installations.
  • Handle minor electrical and plumbing work.
  • Assist Boilermakers with repairs.
  • Maintain documentation for jobs.
  • Embrace other assigned duties.

Required Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 4-5 years of relevant experience.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Knowledge of boiler operations desirable.
  • Pump and motor experience a plus.
  • Plumbing and electrical certifications beneficial.
  • Previous pipefitting and plumbing experience advantageous.
  • Familiarity with computer-operated boiler controls preferred.
  • Minor welding and oxygen cutting skills a bonus.
  • Ensure reliable attendance.
  • Successful completion of drug tests and background checks.
  • Efficient, organized, and adaptable.
  • Self-directed with reliable attendance.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills.
  • Problem-solving abilities with a proactive attitude.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift 50lbs+.
  • Proficiency in ladder, forklift, and scissor lift usage.
  • Capacity to stand for extended periods.
  • Adaptability to varying temperatures.
  • Willingness to work a rotating On-Call schedule.

Working Conditions:

  • Open-air conditions such as noisy, hot, cold, as well as in an office-controlled environment.
  • Often work with hazardous equipment such as gas torches and power grinders as well as in confined, cramped spaces. Must wear hearing, eye, head protection and proper PPE when required.
  • Visits may require standing on a variety of surfaces and at differing angles, bending over, crouching and climbing up and over obstructions such as scaffolding, and ladders.
  • Some travel required.
