Chiller Service Technician:

The experienced Chiller Service Technician, with a minimum of 5 years of experience, is responsible for maintaining the temperature and humidity of commercial buildings. The Chiller/Commercial Service Technician will install, maintain, diagnose and repair commercial HVAC/R equipment and assist the plumbing and controls department as needed. This position reports directly to the Director of the Boiler Division as assigned.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

This position is responsible for the following: Other duties may be assigned.

  • Diagnose service issues, obtain replacement parts, calibrate system to manufacturer’s recommendations, and explain fully to customer what the issue is and what is needed to correct the problem.
  • Install, maintain, diagnose and repair commercial HVAC/R equipment.
  • Maintain proper stock, parts, tools, and safety equipment in the vehicle.
  • Identify and report to dispatch potential opportunities for additional business (newer system, service contracts, additional services).
  • Assist plumbing and controls department as needed.
  • Maintain company vehicle.
  • Travel to job sites.
  • Maintain compliance with all company policies and procedures.
  • Participate in company/industry provided training and events.
  • Be available to work nights and weekends as needed and be on-call on a rotating basis to service the emergency needs of customers.
  • Perform related duties as assigned by supervisor.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years of service experience in Heavy Commercial HVAC.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience on air-cooled and water-cooled chiller diagnostic, repair and installation.
  • Good analytical skills.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, plans, and manuals.
  • Accurately diagnose electrical issues using multiple electrical diagram types.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Well groomed, neat appearance.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate with internal staff and external customers alike.
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • High school diploma/GED required.
  • Valid driver’s license and excellent driving record.
  • EPA Universal.
  • Ability to pass a background check and drug screen.
  • Consistently punctual and reliable.
  • Willingness to work a rotating On-Call schedule.
  • Efficient, organized, and adaptable.
  • Self-directed with reliable attendance.
  • Problem-solving abilities with a proactive attitude.
  • Proficiency in ladder, forklift, and scissor lift usage.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to work in extreme weather conditions.
  • Ability to work from heights or extension ladders.
  • Capacity to stand for extended periods.
  • Adaptability to varying temperatures.
  • Willingness to work a rotating On-Call schedule.

Working Conditions:

  • Open-air conditions such as noisy, hot, cold, as well as in an office-controlled environment.
  • May be exposed to noise from the chiller equipment, dust, and fumes from the chemicals used to clean the equipment. Must wear hearing, eye, head protection, and proper PPE when required.
  • Visits may require standing on a variety of surfaces and at differing angles, bending over, crouching and climbing up and over obstructions such as scaffolding, and ladders.
  • Some travel required.
